The Ph.D. Board

While candidates undertake their program within School of Medical Science, the Ph.D. program is administered centrally by the Ph.D. Board which reports to the Academic Board which in turn reports to the University Council.

The Ph.D. Board has the overall responsibility for ensuring the smooth progress of Ph.D. studies. It oversees the program for, and monitors the progress of, each individual candidate from time of initial registration through to examination.

The Ph.D. Board is concerned not only with maintaining the highest academic standards, but also with protecting the interests of candidates and supervisors, and acting as a mediating body if disputes or difficulties arise. They meet quarterly throughout the year or whenever it is required on 10 days notice.

The Ph.D. Board holds annual meetings on the status of registered candidates and to insure the integrity of the Ph.D. program. The Board¡¯s five representatives may hold other periodic meetings at their sole discretion. The Ph.D. Board also contributes to staff development programs for new Ph.D. supervisors at CTU.

A list of current members is readily available from the Dean. Candidates and supervisors should know who is on the Ph.D. Board, and particularly who represents their College, but any member of the Ph.D. Board can be approached at any time for advice or information.
